October 31, 2011 (Regina, SK.) – The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) and AgriVille.com are proud to announce they are joining forces to host the first-ever live webcast of a provincial election - Your Farm, Your Future, Your Vote! An Agricultural Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
With less than a week to election day and fifty-eight seats up for grabs in the province, the current Minister of Agriculture, Bob Bjornerud, Sask. Party Candidate for Melville-Saltcoats and Dwayne Yasinowski, NDP Candidate for Regina Northeast and Opposition Agricultural Researcher will be courting the farm vote on behalf of their parties. With a live webcast of the entire town hall scheduled for Tuesday November 1st, on the agri-ville.com website and subsequent cable broadcasts, it is estimated that the viewing audience could number in the thousands.
One of the goals of the provincial election town hall is to raise the profile of agriculture and initiate a constructive dialogue during the election. An agenda that supports four pillar topics will provide structure to the meeting, while allowing time to open the floor to questions from the audience. The key issues that will be open for discussion will be centered an farm profitability, grain transportation, grain marketing and business risk management. This is good news to farmers, who have yet to hear much about the agriculture platforms of either party.
"Our intent is to allow the two parties to present their election plans for agriculture," says Nial Kuyek “APAS General Manager. “Once people have had their questions addressed, we are encouraging them to vote for the party that they feel will best support our industry.”
In order to assure that all Saskatchewan residents have an opportunity to view the Town Hall Meeting, APAS and AgriVille have made special arrangements to broadcast a special one-hour edited version of the event during the following dates and times:
