October 24, 2011

Farmers, Ranchers and rural residents encouraged to engage politicians, learn platforms and vote for the party that best supports agriculture and rural communities!

(Regina SK.) The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) and Agri-ville.com are very proud to announce they are joining forces to host the first-ever live webcast event of its kind during a provincial election - Your Farm, Your Future, Your Vote! An Agricultural Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the Remai Arts Centre in Saskatoon.

This unique partnership will provide a platform which will allow Saskatchewan farmers and ranchers and provincial politicians to engage in a productive dialogue around issues related to the ag industry and rural development.

“APAS is excited to be partnering with Agri-ville.com in delivering this very important Town Hall Meeting,” says APAS Vice-President, Don Connick. “This event will put rural issues front and centre and will open doors to further discussions with our key political leaders and stakeholders as we build a sustainable and thriving agriculture industry in the province of Saskatchewan.”

The Your Farm, Your Future, Your Vote!  Town Hall Meeting with Sask Party Candidate and current Minister of Agriculture, Bob Bjornerud and NDP Candidate and Opposition Agricultural Researcher, Dwayne Yasinowski , will offer attendees the opportunity to pose questions to both leading provincial parties regarding the issues and challenges facing Saskatchewan’s producers and rural communities. There will also be video-taped questions submitted from producers across the province.

‘We are not concerned with the political agenda, however we do feel strongly that farmers and ranchers engage in the political process to ensure their voice is heard,” says Graham Dyer, President of Agri-ville.com.

APAS and Agri-ville.com are also proud to announce that media partners, SCN, Shaw, and Access Communications will be broadcasting a one-hour special of the event following the Town Hall Meeting. Viewers can catch the event November 2nd at 6pm on SCN and Shaw TV 10 in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Swift Current and again on Sunday, November 6 at 7 pm on Access 7 in 77 communities across the province (please check your local listings).

“Agriculture is a pillar industry in Saskatchewan – both economically and socially - and as such should be an important part of every party's platform,” said Joanne McDonald, General Manager of SCN/Bluepoint Investments Inc. "SCN is very pleased to be able to bring the presentation of these critical issues facing our agricultural community to a provincial audience."

“The upcoming election provides a real opportunity for farmers and ranchers from across Saskatchewan to provide input on the future of their industry,” Access Communications CEO Jim Deane said. “Access is pleased to bring discussions like this to all citizens as they prepare to make this vital decision.”

APAS encourages all farmers, ranchers and rural voters alike to take part in this historical event. For more information, complimentary tickets to the event, or information on how you can participate online, please visit www.agri-ville.com or follow the links on APAS website at www.apas.ca.
