Amazing to not see snow cover in the picture at left for this time of year. This edition we review the 3 month Environmental Canada (EC) Temperature and Precipitation outlooks, the current snow depth in Canada, the shorter term precip and medium term temp and precip outlooks with the continuing but unusual La Nina conditions. Headlines show the La Nina confounding forecasters and leading to dry Prairie conditions. This has been caused by extreme conditions in Alaska allowing warm and dry conditions across the Prairies and lack of snow cover leading to a significant portion of the winter wheat exposed to winter kill for any Polar outbreaks which we show a hedge for as well as drought and a cool summer.
With the longer term forecasts discussed today and the headlines, we are also suggesting drought and excess heat hedges for planting into the growing season be considered.

This edition we review the new 3 month Environmental Canada (EC) Temperature outlook and shorter term precip and medium term temp and precip outlooks with the continuing but unusual La Nina conditions. Headlines show the La Nina confounding forecasters and leading to dry Prairie conditions. This has been caused by extreme conditions in Alaska allowing warm and dry conditions across the Prairies and lack of snow cover leading to a significant portion of the winter wheat exposed to winter kill for any Polar outbreaks which we show hedges for.
With the longer term forecasts discussed today and the headlines, we are also suggesting protection against a late spring freeze after breaking dormancy as well as drought and excess heat hedges for planting into the growing season be considered.

This edition we review the 3 month Environmental Canada (EC) Temperature outlook and shorter term precip and medium term temp and precip outlooks with a return to La Nina conditions. Headlines show the La Nina to date not living up to expectations which has been caused by extreme conditions in Alaska allowing warm and dry conditions across the Prairies but that has finally reversed with a colder and wetter outlook through the rest of the winter into spring.
Excessive precipitation structures and coldness that would impact planting can be purchased now for late winter and spring and winter kill on winter crops before capacity becomes more expensive. Also, this issue we will go to a every other week as we go into mid-winter and spring. If you would like to receive the weekly US version, please let us know.
