Monthy Report from District 5 Directors

District 5 Directors April 2011

It seems spring has arrived, water running everywhere, roads in terrible condition, the fields are worse, as of today April 28, RM 309  is closed to vehicle travel, local residents only!!  The condition of roads and fields are too soft for equipment to be on, hope things improve soon, local airstrips also to soft to use.

Winter went very fast, many meetings with RM’s and ongoing grain issues.  In January I attended a meeting with Canadian Grain Commission on user fee changes, and then participated in meetings with Pulse industry on the grading issues. Plus to additional meetings with the Pulse Committee and Grain Standards in Winnipeg. Many new changes coming with chlorophyll analyzer for Canola, I hope to see this in the next year?

In regards to wheat I have been taking part in a study testing a new machine on Falling NO.  This too looks promising but will have to wait and see what happens.  As chairman of the Pulse Committee I have asked for a review of all grading standards and how they compare with other countries, as well how the grades will reflect on its end use??

To everyone have a very safe spring ...TTFN   Garth
